amarok will be a 2L turbo common rail diesel
we got told at factory training the towing capacity from the amarok is actually hindered by ADR. something about the down ball weight limits. but can pull alot more than legally allowed. but as not driven them yet i could only call it a rumor for now. but its believeable
ADR usually makes things harder :P

Be interesting to see how the Amarok fairs up against the more traditional and established Toyota and Nissan branded 4X4's.

If it's only for a 6x4 with a couple of ATVs then a Golf Tdi will handle it fine.
We have actually towed a couple of cars with the wife's 1.9 diesel, no problems at all - Unbraked trailer, GVM under 750kg of course

You just need to be aware of the downwards load limits on most new cars as they are quite light, although with a properly loaded 750kg trailer you should only have 10% down load i.e. 75kg

That's the case with most utes in Aus.

I remember the BT40's were capable of 4tonne towing but ADR got in the way.

a 6x4 with a couple of bikes? Is that all? Just stick a towbar on your car.

Towing 4 tonne is a different thing to being able to stop it safely. I can guarantee that a BT 50 would have transmission and brakes well ablaze at the bottom of Collie hill if you had 4 Tonne on the towbar.

My opinion is that the vehicle should always be heavier than the trailer for safety. I cringe when I think of oncoming geriatric drivers in Freelanders towing massive vans because a salesman told them it was safe.

lol @ seagulls "fleet of Hiluxes"........he drives a Mazda 3 and it's a girly colour.
