I've been lucky, haven't had any issues with mine except for a couple of poorly programmed apps that don't work properly. I'm a pretty heavy user too, I rape it with bulk Exchange email traffic and Ipod use. I've only even turned it off maybe 3 times the whole time I've had it too - pretty stable up time!
lol @ angry consumer. Never mind about the 5000 million billion gajillion Iphone units that have NOT had this fault... I bet somewhere in the world someone's Nokia, BB, HTC etc has fucked up too. Get over it, shit happens :)
I'm asking for help not asking for random useless posts from a gimp like yourself!

So how does "My phone has never had problems" help anyone????

My iPhone has fucked up every week since buying it new 18mths ago.
I can list far more issues with HTC phones than iPhones... but anyways...

Can't you get the phone fixed under warranty? Or if you are still under contract get a free upgrade?
4 months out of warranty unfortunately John ans they only give a 12mth warranty for iPhones compared to every other company giving 2yrs (thats gotta say something)
may as well try re-installing the firmware.

+1 to this! :)
Cant reinstall the firmware as it wont let me, as previously said it keeps coming up with the error 23 which is a FATAL HARWARE error.

I rang the Apple store and told them everything step by step and they said unfortunately the only way to fix it is to replace the board inside which would cost appx 3/4 the cost of a new iPhone and it would be best just to buy a new one.

I asked if this happens alot and he said they send atleast a few back a month for warranty repairs so it's definately not an isolated incident.

I'm off to Vodafone to get a HTC Desire HD and see if they can waive some of the early exit fees etc, so fingers crossed and I'll see how I go.

Brent can I use your old 3gs to back up my old sync and get all my numbers etc to put in my new phone please? :D

mate the only way to maybe use the phone again is to factory restore it, but try doing it while on the phone to apple support to maybe save your data:
Apple
133 MAC (622)
PO Box A2629
Sydney South NSW 1235

that said looking at the freaky errors your getting (that I've never seen on 2 iphones) I'd say its a hardware issue???

If you do get out the soldering iron to attempt a fix (why not its now a brick anyway) make sure you make a video of it to turn into a viral youtube :)

JDM_STYLE 05-11-2010 01:55 PM

Tried factory restore, no go and even Apple said so.

I'll prob get one of these little asian phone shops to fix it eventually and then flog it on eBay but I need a phone in the meantime so I'm going to try the HTC Desire HD and see how that goes.

Big thanks to all those who tried to help and gave me useful info.

Wayne, have you restored from DFU mode? (i.e. not from the cable telling you to connect to iTunes screen)

I've found this to be the best way to fully restore an iPhone.

Yep. Chuck the phone in DFU mode then

Download the firmware: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

and give it a shot restoring, hold left shift when clicking restore in itunes (will allow you to point to the downloaded firmware).

no harm in trying.

Found this here,

http://www.iphoneowners.com/troubleshooting-support/2214-need-help-iphone-error-23-a-2.html

"Code 23 is an error connecting to Itunes so the best way is to narrow down what could be causing the problem.

#1 Itunes corrupt software
#2 Corrupt USB drivers or a bad usb port.
#3 A bad Iphone usb cable
#4 A bad data port on the IPhone the cable was connecting to."

Hope this helps.
