I'm not disputing they are NOW available via UPGRADE for the original Desire but why buy the older/ugly version of Desire when all that stuff is already loaded on the NEW and better looking version? the list I put up was just part of my reasoning as to why I decided on the HD version and not a bagging of the original phones short comings.
I know where your coming from on this and I'm not saying that the Desire HD isn't a much better phone than the current Desire.
However, the current Desire when running with Froyo is still a wonderful piece of equipment and at the end of the day will pretty much do the exact same job as the Desire HD, minus the fact that it has a small screen.

One thing that I do like about the Desire HD is the fact that it now has a different screen.
The AMOLED is very nice but gets absolutely raped when your out in the sun :(

Either way, your going to enjoy the phone :D

Ok so I got my new phone yesterday and I'm fairly impressed so far, people say the iPhone is easier to use after they try out one of these but that's always the way with getting used to a new phone after using the old one so much.

I find this fairly simple and the HD playback is awesome and other usual features work well, I've already downloaded a shite load of apps (plus lots of old nintendo games)and most of them are exactly the same as what can be had on iTunes.

It is a little bigger than the 3Gs but not so much so it's overly bulky, well not for my hands anyway.

So if your thinking about one then just go test it out but remember it will take some getting used to. :D

You got bad information from someone at Apple.

An article on my website, refers to your exact iPhone situation.

Basically Apple will replace a busted iPhone with a refurbished one for about $270, even if its very badly damaged (went for a swim, run over by a truck etc).

It's there in black and white on apple.com

I can understand why repair shops wouldn't tell customers this. Or why even mobile phone providers like Vodafone might not know, but Apple themselves didn't tell you? Wow. I might update the article, lol.

Hope you got it all sorted out mate. Give me a buzz or shoot me an email if you need any help. I repaired over 20 iPhones this week.

Awesome info mate, will have to pull it of of storage and take it to the city Apple store this week.

Ok help needed please. Didn't want to get flamed for not searching and then starting a new thread so thought it would be better to ask in this one.

My problem with my 3GS started about 2 hours ago. I went to show a friend something on my phone only to discover that it appeared to be frozen and had a zoomed in image of my wallpaper. Tried the old shut down and take sim card out several times, still the same thing. Managed to get past the passcode lock by a lot of patience with gradually getting the frikking screen to slide down to the key pad so I could enter the code only the discover that once I was in all the apps were also zoomed in and the touch screen was resistive to me scrolling. Thought it may have been a problem with the accessibility settings and tried scrolling down to where accessibility should be in settings menu to no avail. Have been staring at the fking thing for an hour now trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

Tap the screen twice with 3 finger tips to get normal sized screen back, used to happen to me all the time as apparently it has something to do with pressure on the screen if you have it in your pocket etc.

Hallelujah! You rock Wayne. In the process of installing updates now since its been awhile.

Gaijin 17-04-2011 12:21 AM

Yeah double tap with three fingers is the go. I had this happen a few months ago and first thought I'd broken something....

You can also turn it on/off in the accessibility settings, provided you can get there...
In the same settings tab there is also a black on white effect, which can be a cool trick to play on mates.

Also just read on a different forum that the zoom can be permanently disabled in the iTunes accessibility settings.

By the way Wayne, how did things go at the Apple store, did they replace that busted phone?

JDM_STYLE 17-04-2011 12:46 AM

Never got around to taking it back so my 5yr old daughter plays with it now hahahaha, I suppose when ever I go to the city which is probably never I'll take it with me and see what happens. :D
