Default Couple vs Congo

I have just finished reading this thread and it is pretty amazing.

http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...ad.php?t=50799

I love getting away from civilization and doing some camping and fishing but those 2 just took it to a whole other level.

Anyone done anything similar?

Hardcore!!!!!!

I remember being offered contract work in the Congo at a minesite. They were offering the most ridiculous pay. From memory it was $90,000 for 6 months work.

Then it went all pear shaped when they couldn't get Insurance.. funny that.

Haha, rubbish money for working in congo.

I've seen a couple of interesting jobs pop up recently in the oil and gas field. One was working 28 days on, 28 days off in Basra (Iraq) paying 1000 pounds sterling per day.

The other was working in Nigeria 5 weeks onsite in Lagos, 1 week at head office in Paris and then 2 weeks unpaid vacation with a free return flight to anywhere in the world.

Both positions were Tax free, if you bank overseas!

Well there you go, I definitely had a chubby for that kind of money. Except the whole fact that every boy soldier would love to clip a white westerner...

Also Tax free only applies after 6 months continuous (not flying home) work there and I think the Government just recently closed that loophole up as a mate of mine is FIFO Mumbai and Saudi and is getting fucked up the A$$ with tax now. He is on $25K a month US.

If you are working in the copper belt in the south east part of the DRC you will be relatively safe as the government army protects the miners for obvious reasons but the north is still not safe for anyone.

Me too, i have just about finished it!

Very epic jeourney and really makes me want to go out and by a landcruiser and just start driving!

I can't for the life of me figure out why they didn't have a winch though?

I thought this was going to be another porn thread!

Just wasted an hour reading most of that thread, but I'm too old to be doing that sort of crazy stuff.
