Guess that's the benefit of a "group buy" of sorts, lots of people to research the quality and value of the offer. Also an instant lynch mob if these guys do the dodgy on any forum member.

Put it out for public tender. See who can win our business.
Not a totally silly idea. A GB of this nature would be worth a considerable sum.

The price difference on these depends on the inverter that you install. As with everything you get what you pay for so if your mate tells you he paid $3k for a 1.5kw system and you paid $2k it doesn't mean you will save more money.

Each inverter will have a nominal incoming voltage from the panels (in DC) the lower this voltage is the better as it means the panels+inverter will generate electricity in duller conditions (sunrise/sunset/cloudy days etc) I've seen inveretrs with 90-500 volt incoming DC voltage then others work from 200-500DC. Obviously the first will generate more $

Also how the panels are tied together, diodes need to be used in between the panels simply because if one panel is covered by a tree for instance eight other panels (or however many you end up having) won't produce maximum electricity. Basically they'll produce whatever the weakest one is producing

Still I'm interested in Luke's quote and if he could supply us the info on the inverters that the company uses

I wouldn't mind looking in to Solar (maybe a 1.5kw system) and then also a wind gen. I live high up on a hill and the sea breeze whips over my house pretty violently most days.

Considering Perth is the second windiest city in the world, we do a pretty shit job of harnessing that energy and converting it into power.
