Ok here are my experiences from installing a 1.1KW system 9 months ago through the previous "Midnight Oil" government scheme:

1) I installed the newer technology Japanese manufactured Kaneka panels that resemble more a 1m2 terracotta tile than the usual looking solar panel - these don't generate as much electricity as standard panels but are reported to work better in low light and high heat. I have compared my system output to a friends cheap Chinese unit and his beats mine every time even in low light so I'm hoping for some hight heat so I can possibly turn the tables on him. The standard type panels are reported to shut the whole grid down if 1 of them becomes shaded whereas the Kaneka can operate with just 1 panel if need be. *Note I am yet to see any evidence of this.

2) the output from the system is woeful - on the brightest day I get 6KWH max which isn't enough to run my fleshlight until climax.

3) I am yet to have Synergy supply me a correct bill as they seem to have no fucking idea how to handle the 2 way feed - all my bills are being estimated even though we are reading the new meter and sending them the cards - so far my power usage is the same as before the panels went on and when I query this I am told "Well you must be using more power now..."

4) I am becoming increasingly concerned about the possible health issues of having high voltage power cables running through the roof of my children's bedrooms, and a Sunny Boy inverter humming away 1m from my head all day on the outside of my home office wall. I do have more faith in a German built inverter than a Chinese one as far as safety is concerned but not much more.

Conclusion:
I would wait until new technology arrives (it's apparently coming soon) where the inverter is actually part of the panel itself as it appears the power loss as the electricity travels down the cables between the panel and the inverter are significant and this is the reason you need to mount the inverter as close as possible to the panels - hence why the thing is on the outside of my office wall.

Lies.
Anything above 5kw just doesn't receive the government rebate.

I thought anything above 5kw requires "electricity power plant" approval (or something similar)

Also after you go above 1.5kw, you no longer benefit from the rebates (or so I was told)
So 1.5kw gets maximum rebate but then after that it's full price for additional panels
