Default Retracting a statement?

Ok, so, story goes, I'm a witness into sometihng that happened a few months ago, now, I gave a statement, and the alleged criminal was delivered with the charges.

Here's the thing, I don't wnt to go to court, I wish I never even gave a statement, there's not enough evidence to hold up in court, as i'm the only witness, and I never saw a thing, just heard things.

I want to retract my statement, is there anyway to do tihs? What options can I pursue?
Legally, because charges have been delivered, will I be committing a crime by retracting said statement?

I don't wish to give fulld etails of the crime/scene, just a rough outline that i've given here.
thanks!

Nothing like that at all, I just don;'t want my statement to be used because both parties invovled are friends, and last thing I want is to stand up in court and be pitted against friends.

Fair call, my first port of call would be to give legal aid a call and see what they say.

You can withdraw a statement.

However, if you tell them you made it up you will be charged with falsifying a statement.

Even though the charges have been delivered?

Do I need to give a reason?

I am sure as hell the police will ask you why.

You dont have to give a reason above and beyond "I no longer wish to testify in court"

If there was a crime committed and you heard/saw anything and you made a statement then you should have the balls to stick by it...how do you know there's not enough evidence...are you a lawyer?
If the evidence isn't there, then the perpetrator will be acquitted....simple.

Say you were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the alleged offence and if required also at the time of making the statement.

And I am also pissed right now your Honor.

Like a boss.

Go straight to a lawyer/legal aid.

A wrx forum isn't the best place to discuss perjury/making false accusations/perverting the course of justice etc etc etc.
