What's the law these days regarding track only cars? Last i heard you couldn't drive them to and from events anymore, which is shit.

Trying to figure out a way to get back into racing since racing my daily was a lesson in disappointment. Car not quite specced enough for track, and so uncomfortable as a daily.

Called DRC now instead of b spec (Dedicated Rally Car). I can't find the info on the CAMS website but I have all the docs on email. Has to be a true rally car, with full cams approved cage and you have to actually compete in CAMS sanctioned events. If you are legitimate, it shouldn't be too hard to do

Quote:
A DRC is a CAMS log booked vehicle built for the sole purpose of competing in Rally events under the rules of the FIA and CAMS. A DRC can only be used on public roads under the following circumstances:
 To drive directly to and from and participate in an official CAMS motorsport event, including scrutineering;
 To drive to and from official promotional events, including media days and displays;
 To drive to and from maintenance/repair establishments;
 For any other purpose at the request of the WA CAMS office; and
 In compliance with DoT requirements of concessional licensed vehicles

These may belong to a member on here, but seems like a really cheap price, especially with "good" tyres.

Thanks Sharpy! Are you in the process of registering a rally car?

I assume by CAMS events that includes all No Limits/ WA Sprint Series/ Rally Sprints?

I was looking into it a few months back but I'm holding off for the moment.

I made the same assumption as you, can't exactly remember why but I got the strong impression those events (at least rally sprint) would be sufficient.

You have to present the car once a year for inspection by a recognised CAMS scrutineer (not DoT), but I wasn't sure if scrutineering at certain events would cover this or not. I think at the time of the inspection they check your log book to see the usage of the car. The DRC program has specially "Rally XXX" plates for the car as well, but I heard DoT have no idea what is going on and don't issue them most of the time.

All in all, I started to get the idea that the best thing to do if you want to build one yourself would be get a road registered car and get it kitted out (cage etc.) and just keep it on a standard rego as long as possible. With minimal road usage you'd potentially get away with it for a while and then just bite the bullet once it gets yellowed. It would be the same process from that point (from what I read). Buying an unlicenced car would be pretty frustrating when getting it from engineer to workshop etc. for all the work required. Permits to move only cover to and from inspections
