Tried some Carlberg last night. Full bodied flavour and 7.2% as well. Enjoyed that.
Then went back to the my standard low carb Maxx Blonde (Cheap) that I had been drinking and it tasted like water.

Nice beer collection you have there Richo

my generalisations are mass produced aussie & nz beers are complete crap.
plus any beer associated with the european soccer leagues are junk (carlsberg, becks, heinekin etc)

also think its rude a lot of restraunts claim imported beers, when 9/10 they are brewed in auckland or geelong.

i always look for beers i cannot pronounce

agree that hoegarden is by far the best.

I was brought up on tooheys new.

Since I have progressed to tooheys extra dry for an every day beer and just try whatevers on special for something special.

The bottle-o at dogswamp shopping centre seems to always have good specials on imported stuff. I have been buying becks, heinekin, carlsberg for around $40 a carton. I am a fan of the micro breweries around Perth, but after drinking mass produced crap I find their flavour is just a little too strong for my palet. Especially the hops flavour.

St Peter (a UK brewer) have a very nice GF larger/pilsner called G-Free. Loaded with Amarilo hops, so its not too bitter.

Fairly easy to get. Any good bottle shop should have it. Some of the ones I have seen it at

This is good info. The wife is a ceoliac and very keen to find out more with respect to the GF options. The only ones we have found so far are O'Brians and Billabong but we tend to only use it for beer battered fish. I haven't been too keen on the taste of the GF beers but very keen to keep looking into this.

^^^ thanks Richo will give then a try, the bottle-o behind the Osborne Park Hotel stocks a decent range of gf beers so might have the St Peter's. A friend of a friend who is also a Coeliac got me some imported gf beers once but can't remember the name of them. The Matso's ginger beer is the only one from the Matso's range that is gluten free I contacted the company to find out if their mango beer was.

I used to stick to Apple or Pear ciders and wine because I didn't really like the taste of gf beers but those import ones were actually pretty decent.

Becarefull, most fruit beers are based on a wheat beer... so even more gluten than normal... because of the lighter base flavour.

Ciders/perry, traditionally made should be safe.... should... ........

I'm not sure it would go all that well as amerillo is mostly used as an aroma hop. Its quite fruity (pineapple, passion fruit that kinda aroma). There are a couple of others which I can't recall that are more largerish.
