Shell on cnr of Berwick St & Kent St will be rolling out this V-Power when it reopens in a couple of weeks, estimated July 17th..Shell Karawara is switching from Premium 95 to V-Power at roughly the same time, as they only have two tanks on site as do the majority of Shell service stations, seems like they're gonna force people who would normally only use 95 to buy the more expensive (as i'm assuming it will be) V-Power 98.

According to the Vpower launch - tomorrow they start selling it, somewhere... I assume the Duncraig store, which re-opened last week will be the first to have it, as I can't see them upgrading again before the end of the year (by which time all Coles/Shell outlets will be selling Vpower)

What laws would've prevented Shell from bringing in 98RON fuel before? I can understand 100, as it was a blend, and WA has some issues with ethanol.

It would only have been their cost to ship the fuel in, re-decorate the fuel stations and make up a lot of signage that this is Ferrari fuel. Given the current crack price wanted for 98 RON at most Perth petrol stations, Shell wants in on this action too.

Kato, I believe we do have specific fuel slecifications in WA that doesn't allow some additive which is used over east.
For the life of me can remember what it was though.

Yeah, but there is no law to prevent Shell from selling 98RON. They just have to adhere to the rules of what 98RON is. Just like BP, Caltex, Peak etc.
It was up to Shell to make a business case and now that there is good profit on 98RON, they want a cut of the market. I also wouldn't be suprised if a lot of customers now avoid Shell servo's as they don't have a 98 RON, thus lowering the appeal of Shell in WA.

I found it, many fuels around Australia contain the additive MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) as an additive which use is banned in Queensland and Western Australia.
