Just spotted on the WASCC website that the redevelopment works for the track have started this week.
The main control tower is being demolished and new in field pit facilites are being built in preparation for next years v8 stupidcars race.

If it wasn't for them kicking up a stink, chances are the homeowners around Barbagallo would've gotten their way eventually and had the track removed permanently. Then there would be no real circuit for anyone.
