Default Tuning Blown Engine, advice

Hi guys, Just posting this up for a friend of mine as his not on any forums and I thought I'd get a second opinion for him.

His car is a R33 GTR 100% bone stock besides a cat-back exhaust with close to 80k kms. One day driving along it shudders and stalls continuously, got it towed home then sent to a Workshop to be diagnosed. Workshop told him it was turbo seals and new turbos were needed.

Two brand new turbos ordered and installed + Power FC. So while tuning his car it did a big end bearing and his motor is now rooted, Workshop says he had bad oil. Where does he stand ? His car was bone stock no modifications just a catback exhaust.

Its a relatively old car (13 - 16 years old) and ultimately its the owners responsibility to ensure the car is mechanically sound before having it dyno tuned. The only caveat would be if the car was serviced by the workshop - but from the sounds of it that wasn't the case............sucks but I'd say his recourse against the workshop is squarely planted between none and fuck all.

I'd probably piss and moan for a bit, see if they wanted to go halves in a new motor, or come to an agreement of some kind.

If not, piss and moan some more, buy a new engine and take it elsewhere and never go back.

He obviously wants the workshop to pay for the new engine. Did he sign a dyno waiver form like most places make you sign these days?

If he really wants to pursue it, consult MTA, lawyers etc. All forums are going to say you have no chance. There is nothing to say he didn't know the car was stuffed prior and took it to the mechanic to blame them for the failure.

He didn't sign any waiver or any forms. If he had bulk modifications to his car then I know his got no chance, but his car is bone stock. Does that not help him? or give him something to stand on

Thanks for replies guys.

Nope - its a 15 year old high performance car that have known issue with oil control.

If it was brand new off the lot, yeah sure.

For all you know it could of been running a GT35R at 2 bar before he got the car.
