Default Help -buying in wa then registrating in nsw!??

Hi all,

Story goes, i've found a car i like in WA, it is currently licensed and i've purchased this vehicle.

We filled out the transfer of ownership forms, I dont have WA license nor a residental address in WA.

The owner went into DOTs today and apparently the person at the counter said i need to come into DOTS with them, hand the plates back, get a temporary permit?? WTF, seems a bit extreme, i do not want a WA license nor do i want the car registrated in WA, it is simply transfering the owner to me.

Any experiences? Please help point in my the right direction.

p.s i have tried searching the forum; so far all i can find is details for buying from an Eastern state.

David

Owner hand in wa plates and notify them that they will be unregistering the vehicle.

It's pretty much the same as buying over east, but just reverse the process.

Thanks man!

After doing some reading, there maybe another option - What are your thoughts on this idea?

The owners doesnt say anything, it gets transported into NSW, with WA plates, I drive it to the mechanic for the vehicle inspectation etc then registrates the vehicle under my name with appropriate supporting evidence?

Is that possible too if the owner agrees?

Yeah that's another good way of doing it, at the end of the day DOT only cares about them getting paid their Stamp duty. Good luck with it champ.

Best to check to law in NSW in relation to this. I think it is different from state to state. In WA, if you buy a car from another state and can't transfer it, the rego is void once it hits the border.
