How old is the drive as they don't last more than a couple of years? If it's all your uni work I would suggest contacting a professional data recovery service in Perth - if it costs $200 and you get your data back it's a win. There is software out there (e.g. USB Drive Data Recovery - Pen Drive Data Recovery) but no idea if it will work for you.

Go back to the Mac, remove files from drive, format in FAT or FAT32 (on the Mac), put files back on the drive, done.. will work on both

Download Active Undelete, run a complete/full scan and recover the files. Has worked for me several times in the past for USB flash drives, SD cards and even a mobile phone's internal storage.

Did you "unmount" the drive when you removed from Mac?

I can probably get your stuff back for you if you need. Just would have to get the drive to me.
