I think there is a very simple way to sort this. Paid Parental leave is a ratio of how much tax you have paid and capped at a certain amount. If you're 25 and you've worked since 14 like some of us, you'll have topped up your account quite nicely and get the hand out. If you're 15 and like letting football teams plough you for fun and you get a bun in the oven, you better go get a scrape because you've got fuckall in the bank. If you're so old that you can't get it up (like Fred) then you get to cash out the payment for adult diapers

Reassess your life before you plan to have children, don't rely on the govt money! If your that poor that you NEED the govt money then I feel sorry for the children who will be raised poorly!
I won't be having children til I'm in a good financial position!
Most of my friends and family are not eligible for govt assistance anyway!! So meh!

Sorry Huggy, but if only those who could afford to have children had kids population growth would virtually stop. Paid parental leave is about allowing parents to stay home an do a proper job raising their children.

For most of us here at the time we were brought up the cost of living was low enough that one parent could stay home and not work.

The cost of living is so much higher now. That that argument doesn't wash.

You guys are missing the point of paid parental leave. The point is not that you are too poor to raise children. The idea is to allow parents to be able to stay at home and do a good job raising their kids in the critical early years instead of handing them over to a carer from as earlier 3 months which is developmentally terrible for children and can lead to serious problems once they reach their teenage years.
By taking the stress off families at the start of the child's life it enables parent's to concentrate on raising their kids.

I'm doing my part to ease overpopulation of the planet, what form do i fill in to get my handout for that?
