I work for a business that manufactures goods. In the past we have had issues like this. Not so much with the boss/owners but more between production workers. One method i have seen which works quite well is to mark your boxes/goods with something that proves it is your work.

I have seen almost the exact situation play out with a very lazy worker accusing another good worker of making the mistake. She went off obviously thinking her acting would help make others assume she was innocent. The guy she was accusing had been secretly putting his initials on all his work and calmly pointed this out, it was very funny to watch her change her story and tone instantly. If you dont want to do anything in secret ask to put in place some kind of quality control system so everyone has to mark their own work with a stamp or sticker.
