Golf R.

Brand new, warranty, euro heritage, up to luxury car tax threshold, you'll claim 3.5k easily in the first year if you do any work Km's.

Thanks for the input guys. They are considering just getting rid of their commodores and getting something a bit more respectable when seeing clients etc.

They want to have something they can take down south and have the effortless drive a german tourer has plus also a bit of oomph so if they want to have some fun in it they can.

Is that your budget too Jimmy?

Fk all this talk of euro's makes me want one now after spending the afternoon dribbling shit about them.

I wouldn't personally buy a Euro out of warranty, and bear in mind cars like a Cayenne Turbo were $250k new and spare parts and repairs are priced accordingly. You'd hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

A Golf R would fit the bill, but might be a bit of space shock downsizing from a Commodore though.

LOL ok. Well even the new GTI is a pretty nice car to drive. Had one for the weekend when the Missus got her 118TSI (they had a delay delivering the car so gave us the golf to say sorry).

The 118TSI (despite only being a 1.4) is still supercharged and turbocharged so has plenty of guts... AND get's you 700kms per tank in comfort.

I heard the engines where having problems with the supercharged and turbo charged models. Correct? Rings cracking or something?

The ring problem was in the early ones, but they still have high oil consumption until the rings fully bed in.

Bought the wife a Polo Gti with the same 1.4 super+turbo engine, fantastic fun - but for the proposed usage I think a Merc would be more suitable & impress their clients more.
