In 2012 Rio Tinto produced 250 million tons at a price well below $50 ton.

I must admit, the inner bogan within has been interested in the F6 r-spec for cruizing/performance and comfortability reasons compared to my stiff unconfortable wrx lately.

True. I am no expert in mining but friends who are often mention many overseas resource rich areas that could replace Aust. Places like Brazil etc.

Places where people don't expect to get paid over $100k for driving a dump truck.

I really hope our mining is strong for a long time but it is just as vulnerable to our high wage rates as any other industry.

FMG costs are pushing $90 ton due to the grade and costs associated with buidling the infrastructure, roads, trains, ports.

BHPB are a a bit over $50 ton I believe.

One advantage Pilbara producers have is grade quality and relatively close proximity to Japan, China. We are a reliable supplier and have been for many years. Other countries might have the resources in the ground but getting mines built, roads, built, trainlines built in Africa for instance is not cheap nor easy, full of soverign risk associated dodgy governments too.

Exactly.
Follow the USofA lead with bling SUVs and rednecks in pickup trucks.

They won't go for small cars, even with a turbo.
