Hi ppls...

Not a car issue, just want some ideas on where I might stand regarding my beloved office chair on which I spend many hours per day.....

In a nutshell, the sudden over-wobbling of the pedestal support prompted me to pull the thing apart (only back to the "flat pack" level) and I found a broken 5 ball bearing sleeve - made of plastic - (thanks China); in the guts of it... obviously the source of the problem.

Given that I received this a an Xmas gift in 2010 (purchased in Dec of that year), and mindful of the fact that it was close to 300 clams to buy (in other words, not a cheap-arsed POS), will I have any joy in taking the matter back to OfficeWorks? Anyone on here aware of their return/replace policies? Haven't contacted them as yet, but just wanted some hindsight knowledgeable input before I see them, just in case they try to give me the raw prawn.

Sorry for what might seem as premature cynicism, but when you've lived as long as I have, ya get p!ssed off from being burnt too many bloody times...

Yes absolutely you have a great chance of making a claim, somewhere between none and fuck all.

I work at a retailer and past the government stat warranty there is little chance of cover on something like that, and to make a claim you have to take them to small claims court to get any money.
You could always try office works and see what they say but given its over a year past a 1 year cover I recon they would say no.

If it were say, an expensive recliner that had a 12 month warranty, lasted around two but would be expected to last 5+ years then you might have a chance. Just for the nature of the product (office chair), it would get heavy use. ie. all day, every day and despite costing $300 it realistically only has a life expectancy of a couple of years.

Funnily enough, I have exactly the same problem with my $300 high back chair from OfficeWorks. Wonder if it's the same chair. It's caught the woobly.

Start saving for a replacement, DIY with an upgraded bearing sleeve, or bust out the welder.

without being too rude about it - $300 is about the very cheapest chair I have ever sourced for a client when completing their office.

Quality office chair = minimum $650 - $900
