have done some stuff at Hands On years ago.
very good or very frustrating, depending on the instructor.

Looked at doing some CISCO courses, then figured out what a miserable, soul sapping industry IT is, and the fact that my employers are so fuckin' cheap they won't pay for our training, so I got my senior first aid and occupational first aid tickets, will start doing some volunteer ambo work and work up to getting an industrial paramedic ticket and do minesite paramedic / emergency response work instead.

You need to have the occupational first aid ticket under your belt, then once you've committed to being a volunteer they will give you further training.

To be an industrial paramedic you don't need to be doing nursing either, but to be a "real" paramedic (say, a full time, paid professional ambo), then it's a three year degree. For what I am interested in doing, no nursing degree is required. There's very little diagnosis and treatment involved, it's basically just keeping people alive long enough for the docs and nursing staff to step in.

Dont bother with the IT ,its a never ending treadmill and at the end of the day. It's all out of date!!!
If anybody needs their DOS 6, Windows 3.1 win 95, win NT or Novell 3.11 fixed up let me know!!! HA HA

Seriously though my manager kept nagging me about this shit but wouldnt cough up any cash. the courses are expensive and if you are not working with CISCO Equipment and performing the configs and managing the networks then it is very hard to convert the theory into practical. Hence the reason that a lot of people now ask for the certification and experience when listing networking / router admin jobs.

The guys that I worked with who went on to do routers etc found their jobs going overseas as the company restructured, India etc.

IT can be fun but you could do better with a brickies trowel in Perth!!
