You don't have to upgrade though? Your computer will still work, XP still works you just don't have support or updates anymore

We just used Valve Saver when leaded petrol became unavailable due to ULP being phased in.

As mentioned earlier, just need to run a decent third party anti virus software.

Correct, nothing stopping you from continuing with XP for as long as you like. Just no more updates or official support from Microsoft.

This OS is now nearly 13 years old, it has well and truly had its time.

Windows 8.1 x86 runs on any hardware that supported Windows XP.

That said, Microsoft will still support security updates for Microsoft Defender / Microsoft Security Essentials.

So it is not all that bad.

A lot of places don't keep XP machines fully up to date anyway. So it is not like the risk is any more substantially increased.
