Ahh it's farked mate. Managed to get 6.5Mbps out of a tweaked Cisco 877, which has helped. I am direct back to the exchange so on-net iiNet at least, but arguably would be better off connected directly to a top-hat with Telstra.

Those things are typically over subscribed through and come 6:01PM the backhaul to it is at 100%. The phone coverage in Noranda is shite too, better of with smoke signals, or upgrade to tin cans and string.

The "NBN" here will most likely, at best, be the vectored VDSL2+, sometime after 2020.

1MBps (bytes) is roughly 10Mbps(bits)

Most data networking is referred to in bits per second, well i do anyway.

Also keen for NBN .. that i will probably never receive.

1Mbps will take longer than an hour to download a 1GB file. Though I guess 'decent' rips can be found smaller than that. I talk in bits per second as well, I was just hinting at drewgong meaning megabyte as opposed to megabit.

I regularly get around 13mbps where I am which is pretty decent for adsl. Still wouldn't say no to an NBN connection though.

Well, it won't be decent for 18 months once the nodes are up and running.
NBNCo have admitted to the Senates Estimate Committee that they can't run the FTTN at full speed (or profile 17a from memory) until all users on that node have been cut across from the existing PSTN/DSLAM services to the node.

They have also admitted that people who don't change their existing modems (to a NBNCo approved VSDL capable modem) will have the ability to impact the vdsl services running on the same copper loop and there is nothing that they can do about it.

What a joke!

Edit: I need to spend less time in the NBN thread on whingepool, makes me sad thinking about not being able to subscribe to a reliable service that doesn't require paying $30 a month for line maintenance that never happens!

Yeah, pretty shitty - that's the crappy thing about trying to flog a dead horse that is the copper network.

Pretty good summary here.

The best part is the difference in installation costs between FTTH and FTTN being around $500 according to the recent Melton trial and the SR.
Yet they are still pushing along with FTTN, the costs of maintenance and powering the nodes is easily going to eat up the price difference, no idea why they don't go for the end game straight away.

Despite getting another year older today, I managed to run a new personal best. 17.1kms in 95 minutes is easily the furthest I have managed and its good to know even though I am getting older I still am able to set a new record.

What brand did you get, did you wrap them, do it on a hoist and was it a PITA to do?

Got Riggs' syms racing jobbies. They are ceramic coated in and out so no need to wrap.

Na did it on a set of front stands. They were one piece with up pipe so had to tilt motor to get old ones out and new in. Was a bit painful by yourself trying to line up 3bolts on each head and the 4 on the turbo, but got there with a bit of swearing and manipulating.. Didn't take turbo or intercoller off, so was a pain, but about 1.5hrs to get it back on ground. Not the worst job I've done... ;-)
Sounds a bit different now, even compared to the older equal lengths I had..
