I went for ortho-k in the end (-2.75 in both eyes) . I put my lens in at night take them out in the morning and have better than 20-20 vision, plus if something changes in my eyes i've not f*cked them for life. It cost me under $1400 from Eye-Q in Whitfords and has been worth every cent. My wife has just started using them too and she gives them a vote too (-3.50 and -3.00). Both of us have better then 20-20 and i can even skip a night or two of wearing them and still be legal to drive.

You can replace most things but not your eyes. Even though the risk with laser is minimal it's still a risk.
Nearly everyone over 40 needs reading glasses because of normal age related changes to the lens - its loses its flexibility, nothing to do with Lasik. If you have the Lasik done, chances are you will still need reading glasses later in life, just like anyone that had perfect natural vision does. The whole point of Lasik is that once done you don't have to worry about friggin around with any 'accessories' to get perfect eyesight (until you're old perhaps!)

As stated it wasn't a risk I wanted to take.

I was just pointing out there is an alternative to laser surgery.

One question to ask yourself. Why do the majority of eye care professionals wear glasses or lenses?

Ortho-K sounds like a good alternative - I mean, wearing them while sleeping, doesn't take much effort, and doesn't really affect you as you're sleeping anyway. If that gives you perfect vision while you are awake, and far less risk of danger to your eyes, why not?

IanJ, does your vision deteriorate over the course of the day?

Hi SS,
It does for the first week or so (It only really deteriorates late at night even after only a couple of nights wearing them.) I now just need to wear them every second night (although i only have only done this a couple of times now).

Give Chris at Eye-Q a call, he's been really good with us.

Ian

My girlfriend had it done last friday and has had no major problems at all. She would recommend it to anyone. It was about $4700 to do both eyes on the same day at the lions eye institute.
