My old man had it done after wearing glasses for 30 odd years. Wouldn't look back best thing he ever did he reackons. Mind you he does still require reading glasses but at least he's not wearing multi focal lenses all the time. Another vote for Graham Furness only because he's part of our Rally Team and a genuinely nice guy.

Well if you have Keratoconus, it is not recommended to have laser surgery full stop!! Apparently it is even illegal in Germany to perform laser eye correction surgery on people who suffer from this disorder.
Keratoconus is the thinning of the Cornea. Symptoms include changing levels of visual acuteness on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and "ghosting" of images. How do I know? I have it. I am currently wearing Accuvue softs, but if it gets any worse the only solution is hard contacts or coke bottle specs. |

it was relatively new procedure when i had mine done (1998) and there weren't any specialist in this area in perth (short sight population was small), so i had mine operation overseas. the surgeon did around 20 such procedures a day (at $6k a pop u do the math).
a bit blurry straight afterwards and sensitive to ANY light but had just about perfect vision the next day. had to wear some kind of eye patches at night to prevent accidental rubbing of my eyes for 2 weeks, couldn't expose eyes to any water (showering was a nightmare), can't go swimming for a month (goes without saying), had to do eye drops every night to promote healing of the cornia. but after the initial 4 weeks it was great, i jump into any pool i come across without having to worry about my contacts (usually takes me half an hour to put on btw) or prescription goggles, no more breaking expensive glasses from playing basketball or other contact sport (i break 4 pairs annually on average, hi index ones too!) word of advise, be prepared to watch ur cornia get sliced half open and when they tell u too look at the laser, do it without detracting anywhere else or u get blood shot eyeballs for days! |

Tiger woods had lasic surgery. He's fine. My dad got it done about 2 years ago and has better than 20/20 vision on the tests. Thats from having glasses for like 20 years.
PS: Get one eye done, then get the other... because if the first one is fucked up at least u can have good eyesight in one. If you get both done and you get the 1/million on both eyes you will be blind.

I looked into this in a lot of detail and spoke to a number of professional before deciding not to get it done. Minimal risk from operation but still a risk. But in later years there is a higher risk you could end up with problems, from needing reading glasses to going blind.
I went for ortho-k in the end (-2.75 in both eyes) . I put my lens in at night take them out in the morning and have better than 20-20 vision, plus if something changes in my eyes i've not f*cked them for life. It cost me under $1400 from Eye-Q in Whitfords and has been worth every cent. My wife has just started using them too and she gives them a vote too (-3.50 and -3.00). Both of us have better then 20-20 and i can even skip a night or two of wearing them and still be legal to drive. You can replace most things but not your eyes. Even though the risk with laser is minimal it's still a risk. |
