i was half way "juxtaposing" a reply early in the am lastnite but decided against it as i was too tired to make any real sense,

ballsak essay ensues!

this is what really happened. my first set of dd-linears exploded within a few days, maybe it was me overpowering them or faulty product, who knows. as one was still okay i was done a deal on a new set so now i had a spare driver & tweeter. i had thought about 5.1 but was also looking at the F#1 Status gear that would allow me to have front and rear centre channels but as the unit was not compatible with the v-hub and would mean cutting up the whole dash of its factory command centre to fit the F#1 gear just wasn't an option.

I was concerned the big speaker would look seriously whack. I asked macey about possibly using the smaller dedicated alpine 5.1 centre channel 4" co-ax which would be easier to integrate and wouldn't look over the top. this is where mace earns his keep. he argued that like most quality home cinema's, the trick is to have all the speakers getting the same volume and the same dimensions. I couldn't argue anymore with this logic and said okay, just one proviso, that the dash or trim pieces around it not be cut in a way, as to be able to return the factory gauges back in its place in case it was too over the top.

on first gut reaction, its not for everyone and i was the same to be honest. then he turned it on for me. a combination of the new processor and that 5.1 experience, put to rest any doubt i ever had. so much so, i will never take it out. i will always point out to people of the work and detail just gone into this one speaker, the way it wraps around under the dash as to not look just tacked on. space was at a premium, but the attention to detail and craftmanship, is out of this world.......and that's what you see, let alone what your ears tell you!

i agree also with mace, once the new doors and a-pillars are finished, it will flow a lot better than what it looks now. which is a double sword, for what it looks, but also needed that extra omph as the subs turned up anymore than +4 would drown out the front.....too much powa farken!

I'm sure Earl Zausmer would be a fan of your centre channel Ramon

That's an 11 year old install now

Fark...... awesome to have a foot massager for those long commutes LOL

I remember when USD Waveguides and 8" mid bass drivers were where it was at so to speak. Top notch work so far Macey. As always Ramon, everything about that car screams quality, power and prime alpha one first class

It was stupidly clear as you put it two years ago when Ramon showed at MV08 with Perth-WRX. Was used as the sound system and performed extremely well from memory.

while macey is keeping busy with the car, few other things have been slowly taking shape behind the scenes getting ready for when he finishes!

phil (my mate who i let borrow the fabricated rear end) has decided to keep it and sorted me out with a new one, which has also been modified in the same fashion. extra gussets and seam welds around all the weak areas and its ready to go in with the new harrop truetrac when mace is finished!

mal wood (the tremec guru) has finally installed a modified hurst shifter with ball shifter knob on his own test mule and is now happy to sell them! i have ordered the angled one with the black ball, like the ones used on all the roush racing mustangs!

the brother in-laws typhoon is almost finished. should be going on the dyno tomorrow. i can't wait to see what it does, because its all the old parts from my previous setup and i never had a chance to see what it would do on a standard engine....fingers crossed it goes 400rwkw!

need to detail it and get macey to make up another rocker cover garnish!

Pity there isnt any place where you could recess (sp?) the X Type center channel like on my forester install ! Would look mean and still sound similar . Maybe ?

Not without modification to the gauge holder location which sounds like Ramon wanted to retain the capabillity for a gauge holder. (correct me if I am wrong)

How did that center channel sounds for you?? Looks the part

It was sweet ! Ben Westphal (sp?) actually built it for his forester and it was using and older SPX original speaker with a DDLinear Tweet ! Ended up ripping it out though and attempted to paint it but failed. Anyway no more thread hijacks ! BOT

More pics Ramondo !!!!!
