Very interesting. Many people love the idea of a fully electric car. No emissions.

But are we forgetting something here... Where does the electricity come from ?
In Perth it is a coal fired powerstation. Many people argue that the crap it
puts out is worse than petrol. So until we have a cleaner way of generating
electricity are we fixing anything ?

Granted, areas with things like hydro and wind generation it is a big plus,
but do you really want the govt to build a nuclear power station just outside
perth to satisify the electricity hungry cars of the future ?

Flame suit on

I heard one of the electric cars needs a 3-phase 48Amp input to recharge

And with all those little sony lithium batteries catching on fire in laptops - imagine a 250Kg battery cutting loose when the recharge circuits malfunction.

I agree. I'd rather use reasonably clean 98ron than dirty coal.

Another Positive about this car (and probably most electic/hybrid cars) is the conservation of energy when breaking:

The PEM (Power Electronics Module) performs several critical functions, including motor torque control, regenerative braking control, and charging. Of course the most notable thing inside the car is the battery itself: our ESS (Energy Storage System) is safe, lightweight, and able to take you 250 miles between charges.

Regenrative braking, so this means that engine breaking (or simply using the breaks) will charge the battery too.

Well the last power plant they built was in Navel Base is Gas powered they were planning of building a duplicate right next to it but not sure if it has had the go ahead. Also I personally would have no problems if they built a Nuclear power station in Perth.

The second gas turbine was given the go ahead,
but they shelved it when they realised they don't even have enough gas supply to run the first one & no-one wants to pay for a second gas pipeline!
