Just heard on the news that they are banning the Australian flag at the big day out festival, because last year people some 'intoxicated' people brandishing the Australian flag , made racist remarks to people not from an Australian background. Also noted that people are using the National flag as 'gang colours'.

Now what the fuck, that is the most bullshit thing i've ever heard. Sure it's wrong that people go around making racist remarks, but to be not allowed to wave the flag of your own country that you live in.... That is the most stupid thing I have ever heard of. You can't take an identity away from someone just because someone else has used the Flag under the wrong circumstances.

Thoughts from anyone else?

This is simply a request, not a command.

The Big Day Out is not an Australia Day event, but a music festival showcasing music artists from around the world and aspires to unify people through music.

On the whole, Big Day Out audiences have been extremely well behaved and we hope that this has clarified this situation.

Unfortunately the media reports yesterday were not quoted accurately and we must thank the participating media for wasting everybody’s time including the Prime Minister John Howard, Premier Morris Iemma, NSW RSL President Don Rowe, Keysar Trad (a confidant of the Mufti Sheik Taj el-Dene Elhilaly) and Burt Lane of the Australian National Flag Association….

Is this what they call politcal correctness? If so then we are in big trouble. If something like this were suggested in the USA there would one hell of a lot of trouble. It's our countries flag for christ sake!

Ken West the BDO promoter is a soft cock, the event has been going downhill for years, evidenced by the upspring of other more worthy events such as Southbound here in WA in recent times.

To blame the Australian flag for inciting violence is akin to blaming Pauline Hanson for the hating of female RedHeads. Flags don't have legs, arms and voices. Drunken Yobbo dickheads do. Do we ban VB's, Tooheys and EMU Export as well for the problem, no cause there is money in that. Spend some money on security ya tight arsed prick, and make it known spitefull, drunken dickheads are not welcome at the BDO.

For once Ken West got what he deserved, a right royal dressing down. Banning the flag - send the fucker to an RSL for a quiet drink with a few diggers and see if he comes out alive!!!!

BDO is going to suffer massively after this, public perception has already been damaged, and reversing their decision wont help cos the damage has been done.
