PC Problems...For the IT Superheros
Hey
This is to all the I.T. dudes out there... My GF is sending me files that have an extension as follows: .dat Now from what i can gather is that they are photos that have been opened and then re-sized or something then saved as this file. I don't have the relevant program to open these. So i cant see them. They are coming via email from Sydney. My question is, is there a quick solution that i can open these, re-save them and then burn to a cd? Or better yet, can someone please tell me whats going on. Cheers in advance. Edit: I have checked with internet help and its saying something like Corel WordPerfect Merge Data is needed. Wato

.DAT is annoying indeed. Are you sure they are pictures/images/photographs? In my experience, .dat is video, and can be opened with software like WinDVD and the like.

Definetly photos hey. Originally she sent them in the .dat file stage but now is resending them through one or two at a time as jpegs. so gonna take a long time.

File corruption....used to see that heaps receiving emails on an old shitty Mac running OS 8.6. And still see it to this day when certain files (EPS) are emailed on various systems.
If you know what the file is, just change the extension back and it may still work OK. As to why it does it...no technical answer sorry.

Women and IT .. It just doesn't go. As above, you can try renaming the extension, but i've had limited results doing that.
Dunno what your GF is doing, but if they are coming off a DigiCam or whatever, they should be JPEG straight away ..  Photoshop will open EPS btw.
