Rav4, Xtrail, Grand Vitara, Outlander or CRV
Thinking about selling my wifes Getz and get into a soft roader. I really only want to spend about $15k.
Dont want a subaru. Dont like N/A engines in them and they are poo boxes. Want a 4 door manual. What would you sugest of these options. Or please add others if i have over looked them. No jeeps please. What do you know of the V6's or 4 cyl cars in these options to. Cheers! |

Nissan dualis - took one of these for a drive. Was nice enough.
We have rav4's at work. They are all a bit a much of a muchness really. The rav4 seemed more plain than the dualis though.

Don't think you will get a Dualis for 15k... There are a few Rav4's out there and they are decent cars. My old work had one that used to cop an absolute flogging and it never missed a beat. Pretty boring though.
Go for it...

Rav4's are a good car. The v6 varient is torquey, but the 4 cyl is economical, and quite capable. My cousin has taken her 4cyl rav along the beach from lanno to wedge and it made it easily, even drove past a 60 series cruiser that was bogged one time!
Ideally Russ, you need to wort out what you plan on using it for? Is it just for the higher ride position, access onto beaches sometimes, extra boot space? and then just take them all for a drive and see what results you come up with! |

Thanks guys.
Ideally a car bigger than the getz is priority. Good for camping and a bit of beach work aswell. I really like the GV's. Just hoping for some first hand experience with these cars. Burke sugested the Xtrail so will try that out. Just hate the central dash! If anyone knows someone selling one let me know. |

Yeh the Xtrail is an alright soft-roader. Plenty of storage space and they are pretty rugged as well, with decent enough ground-clearance yada-yada. Only problems I found when driving one were the stupid centre-dash and the steering is also veeery light. Saying that, once you have driven it for a while you get used to both. Just a bit of a shock going from the wrx into one if you haven't driven it for a while.
Overall I don't think you will be disappointed with one though. FYI: I have driven one offroad on some gravel tracks but never on sand. |
