Default ECU swap

Hey guys i was looking at the following thread..

http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/ecu-discussion/13955-engine-control-unit-faq-whats-available.html

I noticed that it says the ECU is swapable from the MY94-96 wrx into the MY99-00 wrx, is this true? Would this be the same for the STI?

Perhaps this would be the most cost effective way if getting a Verso tune for a MY99/00?

not true.

94-96, 97/98 and 99/00 ECUs are NOT interchangable.

I think you may have misinterpreted that graph

Other than the plugs on the ECU loom being completely different. There are updates sensors the most important one being the AFM.

You know there are quite a few Power FCs floating around for sale here and on REXNET. so that would probably be your best bet for a ECU to tune on a my99/00. $700 or so for second hand PFC (cheaper without a hand controller) and another $400 for a tune... thats mot much more than the VERSO reflash ($990)

Just remember to replace your Dodgy Air Flow Meter on any 99/00 WRX/STi if it is getting old and especially if you are running a Pod Filter.

The Nissan's AFM (300 ZX ??) is recommended when doing a Power FC if you care at all about your engine long term!!!!
