it's actually a prebug my00 car with 01 or 02 motor. i'll see what can be done about getting a verso if the unichip continues to be crappy

Why is the MY99/00 ECU harder to reflash than the others?? Would love VERSO also but many have said it will never happen.

Pretty unlikely they would have changed the wiring harness & computer, just would have used block & heads.

They can't re flash because it' something to do with the OB or whatever it is port type, only Bug on has it.

Surely they would change the ECU when they put the new motor in...?

I think James meant 01/02 EJ207 Short block.
ie. Then bolted on were standard 00 WRX Heads/Manifold/Wiring/ECU.

If that is the case hunt around for a V5 Possumlink or Autronic SMC ECU (both plug in) which will remove your Air Flow Meter in the 00 WRX.

James if you are running anything other than the standard airbox and dry paper Subaru panel filter please get a new ECU before your AFM gets contaminated and possibly kills another engine.

The fuel smell is possibly your car running rich - ie your Piggyback Tune is out of whack due to a sensor malfunction and that most likely will be the 00 WRX AFM.

Easy and cheapest solution is to ring around any of the workshops listed to see if they have a good 00 WRX AFM lying around - bolt that in and see what happens - its a piss easy swap.

New AFM did not do the trick

The car has been at West Racing for 2 weeks now and they can't find what's wrong with it

Id seriously be looking at a new ECU, I personally have a Autronic and am very happy with it. Keep a eye out on ebay and forums for a Power FC, will be the best bang for your buck. What did you end up doing with it and did the problem ever get fixed?
