Default Mechanic suggests removing unichip - thought?

My 00 with an ej207 is out of whack -stutters under acceleration and smells a bit like fuel.

The mechanic is suggesting to remove the Unichip and take it back to stock because the chip is old technology and there's only one guy in Perth who can work with them.

What are people's thoughts on this?

i don't mind taking it somewhere else for a tune, so will i get better performance with a tuned unichip or a tuned stock ecu?

Only option to tune the stock ECU is EcuTek and they are pricey enough to warrant a full replacement ECU such as Power FC or even Autronic PnP SM4.

The trouble with a lot of the aftermarket piggy computers ( especially the old school ones ) is they don't have the ability to self correct when the oxygen sensor or afm starts going out of whack . Even the Power FC can have that problem as it uses the afm for reference. Better if going down the path of aftermarket is to use a computer that relies on MAP sensor such as Autronic , Link, Motec as they don't change..

Cheers
Ken

The above is personal opinion and I am sure I will be shot down for the above comments.

Took my Unishit out and went to VERSO...more power, better fuel economy, no hesitation...well worth the money spent! Don't know if VERSO is available for MY00 though...best ring ASG and check!

It's not and never will be! Which is unfortunate as I would really like the best bang for buck option Autronic/Vi-Pec PnP will have to do........Power FC's seem to be as rare as Unicorn shit
