Default Vipec V88 Wideband

I'm just trying to get my head around this so bare with me.

I've always used the Syvecs ECU before which for me is a phenomenally good ECU but the fact no one maps it here means I have to stay with the V88 that I have.

The Syvecs had a dedicated wideband connector so basically you could wire a wideband sensor straight into it and hey presto, your ECU now reads a signal direct from the Sensor rather than need the analogue signal from a controller.

This is where my confusion with the Vi-Pec begins. According to Vi-Pec's documentation the ECU I have also has an on-board expansion port dedicated to wideband. Here's my problem, everywhere I've read suggests that you need an external controller to be used for it to work with the Vipec.

The Pinout for the connector on the ECU is:
Pin1 AN11 (the signal from the Sensor)
Pin2 +14V from main relay
Pin3 Power Ground
pin4 Signal Ground

So does anyone know if I need to buy a wideband kit complete with controller or can I just get a sensor and hard wire that into the ECU using the expansion board.

Or is that expansion port used to hard wire the controller into the ECU?

"The wideband lambda expansion connector is included as an easy way to connect an after market lambda sensor system. The connector provides +14V, two grounds and a connection to analogue channel ANVolt11."

All this means is that your ECU can power & interface to your WB controller directly, you still need a third party controller.

Once you have a controller set up - you will need to setup the calibration table. You will get the info with your wideband controller that tells you what AFR it is at 0v and 5v, for example i have used the info for my unit (2j1)

Output Units: AFR
Output Value A: 9.00 AFR
Input Value A: 0.00 V
Output Value B: 19.00 AFR
Input Value B: 5.00 V

If you get stuck let me know & I can run you through it.

I notice the Syvecs uses the old NTK/Honda L2H2 sensor - that's why it doesn't need an additional controller, they use a very simple drive algorithym.
The Bosch LSU sensors are a more modern design & require a different driver methodology.

If you speak to Willall racing in SA they do the Syvecs ecu. They might be able to help.

Thanks fellas.

Rosso, the Syvecs supports the Bosch LSU sensors but they only supply a base calibration for it.

My car will end up with a Syvecs at some point as you can do so much more with them. Not to mention you could Bluetooth with your iPad to it and have gauge displays gimmicks aside the the Cal switch swings it for me. Upto 12 different maps at the turn of a switch. For example. 98ron and 1 bar on one, 98ron 2bar als and launch control on 2, e85 map on 4, race fuel on 5 so on and so forth. Full traction control strategy etc.

Your vipec is multi mappable too, via any of it's extra Digital inputs, if that's your thing.

I bought one primarily so I can run a Flex sensor down the track & not have to worry about switching maps manually.

Vipec also has the full suit of toys TC, ALS, Traction control, boost per gear, multi- maps, CAN bus etc.

The Vipec is a great ECU and will most probably suit my needs but it's not in the same league as a Syvecs so I am told. I couldn't tell you why because I don't know enough but it's the weapon of choice for a lot of the UK tuners. It's also getting fairly popular in the US now too. I believe the AMS GTR uses one.

It irrelevant for the time being though.
