I believe the Pentax k20d presents better value for the money, and can run with the d90 and 50d with its extensive feature list, which is why I own one... and I don't regret that choice 9 months on... the cheaper k200d is comparable to the d60/450d. And i've not really looked at it but the new K-M is winning awards as well.

stu doesn't negotiate anymore keeps giving me the crap about how he provides 'service' etc. i agree the service is there but $300 difference....

tbh I wasnt happy with the price he gave, but I think the days are over now where he can give better prices then all the other stores, for the amount of gear I have bought from him I thought I would get some better "service"

yup same here, i've spent a dollar or two with Stu. I rang him about the 5d mkII + 24-70 f2.8 combo and i ended up buying it at C.H for $450 less (300 camera, lens 150). There was a defect with the camera and they've replaced it on the spot so cannot complain about them so far.

I think i've decided to go for the Sigma 10 - 20mm f4 - f5.6 (bit slow but seems like the best one over all and my options are pretty limited in this area in pentax mount) I also figure that for landscapes it is fast enough and for interiors of houses there will be a tripod involved anyway. Its the widest non fish eye lens with lots of reach and ill compliment it with the DA* 16-50mm f2.8

edit, just seen that the tamron 10 - 20 f3.5 - 4.5 is due april for pentax mount so ill look into this.

-also been looking at all the macros the Sigma 105mm f2.8 is the best one. (2nd would be the tamron 90mm but the sigma has more reach and lower CA) General review consensus is that its better than all the oem brand names and the other 3rd parties as well. (unless you want /need internal zooming then the canon seems pretty good too)

I'll be buying in June -duty free- before a trip to Vietnam at the end of the month.
At this stage either going with:
Sony A300 with kit 18-70mm, 55-200mm
plus
Tamron SP AF11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di-II LD Aspherical
Currently about $1600 (ex gst) total at DigiDirect

or
Pentax K20D body only$1200
One lens (unknown as yet, possibly 10-200) $700
Total $1700 approx (ex gst)

Reviews of the A300 has put it up with 450D and D90 quality image (due to good sensor), but with live view, internal stability, moveable LCD..but is only 10mb.

Canon make the best macros. MPE-65 = 1:1 to 5:1 magnification!

I have a Canon 60mm f2.8 macro but it only goes to 1:1 magnification.
