Default My next DSLR..

Hey folks,

Having previously had a Canon Eos 550D, and sold it because I was broke.. i'm now looking to get another camera. The 550D was my 1st DSLR, so ideally i'd like another Canon to continue the learning process and get back into Photography.

My interest mostly lays mostly in landscape Photography with the occasional car shot and event. I'd really like people's opinions on the following:

Where's a good place to buy it! - last time i went to Gerry Gibbs Camera House in Cannington.. I over paid because i allowed the excitement of buying it get the better of me. I should have done more research and i probably would have saved $300-400 over all.

What do I need: when i sold up last time, i have the 550D incl Twin lens kit, a Manfrotto Tripod, a shutter remote, 3 UV/Polarising filters, a decent bag, 2 x 16GB class 10 SD cards and a quality cleaning kit. Is there anything else i really need? My 1st thought is a decent flash maybe a Speedlight? but being mostly landscape i'm not sure how essential it is for now.

Opinions on alternate camera's would be great, i'm going to do some reading on the Eos 550D vs 600D. My budget would be around $1500-1800 all in.

Thanks in advance,

RYDA.com sells grey imports that won't be warranted locally (in W.A).

Look at the Canon 60D twin lens kit ($1869) & add a 50mm F1.8 II ($129) later on - it's a great lens!

Look at leederville cameras: Canon 60D Twin Lens Kit

Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II

They will match any online price (like from Ryda or JB hifi).

(I paid $1950 for mine in March...They were $2200 everywhere else at the time)

I took the 60d over the 600d for the following reasons:

Max shutter speed on the 60d is 1/8000 v 1/4000 for the 600d
60d has 9 auto focus points v 1 on the 600d
60d shoots 5.3 frames per second v 3.7fps for the 600 (60d is 40% faster)
1100 shots per charge v 550.
60d has a larger viewfinder.

HTH

Ryda has the 60d twin lens kit for $1848, Leedeville cameras will price match the $21 dollar difference.....

And RYDA still aren't on the Canon dealer/agent lists.

Thanks for the input guys, will go take a look at a 60d whilst I'm out today.

The tripod and remote should be easy enough to source, and from memory were fairly cheap last time.

I'm thinking 550D myself, then spend the money on quality lenses.
I am a graphic designer and love creative stuff like photography (and consider myself half-good at it too) but to be realistic, is there going to be such a noticeable difference between a 550D and a 60D with the same lens? In fact isn't it the same processor, just some different features?
