The absolute cheapest site I have ever found is Digital Cameras, Digital SLR Camera, Camcorder, Lenses & Digital Camera Accessories, I used them for my body, 3 lenses and a load of other stuff. Saved hundreds off city prices and a reasonable amount on most online sites.

Everything has been delivered fast and the packaging is very good too so everything is in mint condition. (And no i don't work for these guys)

Other than that I can't help, I shoot Canon

I've had no experience with that particular Sigma lense. I use a sigma ultrawide, and it's awesome.
I have the Tamron 70-300 for my DX body, and I'm far from impressed. Then again, for the price, I can't really complain.

If you're looking to save some cash, the Nikon 55-200mm VR has great reviews. I'd probably go something like that rather than a third party lens.

Sigma make great lenses. I have a F2.8 17-70mm as my every day lens. CR Kennedy will match the grey import price of any Sigma lens too, so it makes them nice and affordable, and with a local warranty.

Dan, not sure how the D7000 and D90 compare side by side, but if you wanna save a few bob and still get a decent body with the same lenses, take a look at this one:

Nikon D90+18-55mmVR+70-300mmG IF-ED VR+8GB+Bat+Wty-IMVB | eBay

Although DigitalRev are based in HK, they have a pretty good rep.

Also here: Nikon D7000+18-55+55-300 Twin VR+8GB+2xUV+Bag+HDMI-7WPB | eBay if your heart is sold on the 7000, and $170 cheaper.

Wayne, the D7000 basically super seeds the D90 so D7000 is the better of the 2.

Yep, if you are tossing up between D90 and D7000, spend a bit more and get the D7000, its a generation newer. Or if you want to save a bit, the D5100, which is basically the D7000 sensor etc in a slightly smaller lighter body but has far fewer real buttons, so not as good if you like to quickly change settings etc, but has same pic quality. Best to go to a shop and have a play with them.

The lesser bodies (eg D5100) only work with afs lenses, no AF with normal AF lenses.

If you are ever thinking of going full frame, get full frame lenses now and they will all work when you upgrade. A cheap must have is the 50mm AF for just over $100 from HK. I have also used the cheap 70-300 AF, great performance for the small outlay, and a good way to see if you will use such a focal length.

The Tokina 12-24 f4 is also great, as is the Tamron 90 macro.

I have bought lenses from DWI before, very happy with service etc.

Guys I was thinking of something along these lines. What do you think?

$726.00

$973.00

I'm still undecided on a smaller lens though.

For my D80, I sold off the kit lens (18-135 non-VR) and bought the 18-200 VR above. Worth every cent for the upgrade (as far as telephoto goes), although I forked out over $1K at the time ... go for it

A lot of people are very happy with the 18-200, its a great all round lens as goes from wide-ish to decent telephoto, and you dont miss opportunities due to having to swap lenses etc. Some say it can be a bit soft, but if you are not planning to print massive pics, its probably not an issue. It even does ok at macro.

There is also a tamron 18-270, not sure how that compares to the nikon image quality wise, but gives a fair bit more reach.

The D7000 does really well at high ISOs so the lens being slow is not a major issue, and has VR to help stabilise things (wont stop motion blur of subject obviously). You can always add a $120odd 50mm 1.8 for serious sharpness and low light ability.

Re nikon compared to third party lenses, I have had sigmas that were great, and I have had some that were quite poor. I think it varies a fair bit between lens models (and sometimes between examples of the same model of lens) so best to research. Nikon lenses also usually have decent resale.

What would work best on the D7000 and also be best out of these 3? Keeping in mind that I will most likely get the 18-200mm lens above also.

$499

$1249

$1603
