Default 08 STI and ECU compatibility

Hello all,

Just curious about the 08 STI ECU. I am expecting delivery of an 08 STI in a couple of weeks and am looking at an immediate upgrade. I understand that it is identical to the 06/07 mechanically (bar physical differences - double twin exhaust etc) and was wondering if the ECU can be reflashed with the current 06/07 upgrade software?

If not, has anyone or any tuner 'cracked' the 08 STI codes to offer an ECU upgrade? I am keen on and MRT XA kit or equivalent to start with but am more than happy to field suggestions from the experience of the members of this forum.

Thanks in advance guys and gals.

07 ecu in an 08 dont think so!!!

08 STI has alot more differances than just cosmetics.

My advice would be for you to do some research and you'll
find out exactly whats changed, such as SI drive and so on.

Thanks JDM_Style and Vyper,

Yeah, the exact and only mod I'm really after at this stage is a 3" turbo back exhaust to hear that "sweet as sex" boxer rumble, why else would one buy a rexie? but I've heard of boost control issues associated with that mod on the newer models and figured that I'd take the time to retune the ECU to make sure I had no boost spike issues and pick up a few kW while I was at it.

Interesting response Tuna...

Do you run a Motec? a close friend of mine 'UNDRGND' (04 STI) ran an M8800 but could never get it to run right, bad idle, rough boost etc. Obviously tuning issues but even when he had it retuned it still was 'not quite right'. What Motec are you running Tuna? "UNDRGND" ended up ditching the Motec and returned to the standard ECU and recorded 250kW atw. Personally I would rather reflash the standard ECU but thanks for the ideas.

Sorry Tuna..... just noticed the obvious '2 Bar Club' title, obviously a Motec and some well respected mods.

comes down to the tune and the time the customer is prepared to spend having the tune completed.

for operation, the ONLY advantage of a factory ecu is the time not spent on tuning idle and cold-start.

i have no problems with idle.
