Record of improvements made to the Subaru 360 (1964 - 1966)



1964 (naming by year was abolished in this year)

April:*Launch of the Subaru 360 model with auto clutch*
July:*Upgrading with adoption of the new engine utilizing Subarumatic fully separated lubrication, with engine output of 20 PS/5,000 rpm and maximum speed of 100 km/h/ Adoption of two tail lamps / Revamping of rear design through adoption of a vertical louver rear hood / Increase in fender mirror stay height by 15 mm / Change of shape of the license lamp / Adoption of integrated and vertical slit side grille panel / Improvement of the front luggage shelf / Change of seat and interior color combination / Adoption of oil warning lamp / Adoption of sun visor with side visor / Transfer of the battery box 80 mm forward / Adoption of pre-chamber on the muffler / New design cylinder / Change of the suction method / Adoption of needle bearings on the crank rod large and small ends*

(Standard) In addition to the above: Adoption of a manual dimmer switch / Adoption of double wipers*
(Deluxe) In addition to the above: Adoption of an automatic return turn signal lever / Adoption of ribbon tires
(Super Deluxe) In addition to the above: Change of seat material and color, and improvement of screen washer






1965 (Model 26 starting in October)

October:*Expansion of fuel tank capacity to 25 L / Adoption of a built-in tank cap / Adoption of a one-key system / Adoption of push-type door handles and rack pinion door lock mechanism / Incorporation of fuel gauge into the meter (only in the Standard) / Improvement of seat material / Change of interior color combination / Adoption of round fender mirrors / Adoption of broad and flat rear shelf / Change in position of the muffler tail pipe / Change in shape of the engine mounting cushion rubber / Change in shape of oil tank / Change in position of the fuel strainer

(Deluxe) In addition to the above: Provision of tank cap key / Provision of assist rail on the passenger seat side

December:*Launch of the Subaru Custom Standard


1966 (Model 38 starting in October)



October:*Change of shape of bumper / Change of design and material of the top ornament / Change of the front hood slit / Change in position of the fender mirror / Adoption of door pockets / Change of the dashboard to non-reflective embossed steel plate / Change of color and material of the front and rear shelves / Integration of the sun visor bracket with the roof bracket / Adoption of tumbler type lighting switch / Change of design of switches and levers*

(Deluxe) In addition to the above: Adoption of 5-stage sliding front seat / Change of floor mats / Adoption of black PVC ornament to add accent to the bumper
