I've been bugging Chris about the kit since I bought the tail lights :-) almost got him convinced once too!

To get this back on topic somewhat -

Odds are high that you unfortunately wont be able to drive this on the track, and certainly not the street - so if its only going to be for towing/light off road work, does it need to be a Subaru?

My 2c on Forresters.
Based on the 2.5XS NA that the folks in law (FIL) own. The XS is standard. They had a 2000 model Forrester before the current car and the opinion was the same.

Suprisingly capable off road. Beach sand, mud or camping the car is very good. The car tows light-med loads very well. The single axle caravan that accompanies the XS on some trips poses no problems at all. The FIL have even been east with the XT, caravan in tow and had no dramas and got reasonable fuel economy too. I'd say that a Forrester would have no dramas towing a single horse float.
Towing a car trailer is another issue altogether. Simply put, the factory load rating is not high enough to tow a car trailer. Even the GT does not have a higher load rating so from a legality/insurance POV could be a drama.
Would the Forester make a good track day car? The floor pan of the Forrester is the same as the Impreza so its a well sorted platform and the suspension is largely the same too. With some mods, a Forrester may make a good track day car, however not so good for towing and bad for off road use. Like someone mentioned earlier, good for 2 out of the 3.

hehe nice work mate, yeah theres just something about it that i just love, the lazy power, the leather couch seats, will make a great tow car for the '32 i've just installed slotted & cross drilled rotors with ceramic pads on, new front wheel bearings, ac schnitzer 17's, buying a whole suspension arm/link kit off e-bay for $800 and that replaces all the wear & tear items in the suspension & should get it back to feeling like new

i'm going to be giving my foz a good wash & vac on the weekend so i'll throw some pics up for you after that sarah guarantee you won't be disapointed

My parents took their XT manual up north with a caravan and were quite happy with how it performed, apart from the fuel economy!... Reckoned it drove fine and still had a bit of poke to overtake when required, but due to the extra load, it just chewed fuel! And with the ~55L tank, it didn't last too long!

I don't think they would have taken it off road though!?
