Default Old Engine Parts Wanted for High School Course

Hi guys,

As part of an options program running at the school I work at, I'm taking a few classes on the basics of how an engine works and how to look after your car.

The first couple of classes will be theory then we are going to let the kids do an oil change on some of the staff cars (under strict supervision of course).

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone had any old unwanted engine parts gathering dust in sheds that I can show the students during the theory sessions.

I was thinking of things like:

Piston Heads
Con Rods
Crank Shafts
Cam Shafts
Valves

Any parts would be great and I'll arrange to come around and pick them up. The two theory sessions are this Friday and I busy preparing a booklet for them to work through as well.

Thanks,
Scott

I have pistons, an oil pump & an old r/c motor if you want to explain the difference between 2 & 4 stoke engines (I can strip it for you so you can show them the porting).

Not that I have much to offer, but back at my school they had a two and a four stroke engine basically sawn in half with a handle that you cranked and watched all the components cycle. Was a good way to learn. They were just lawn mower engines, so if you could get some old b&s motors free/cheap you might be able to do something like that?

He teaches in Mexico guys, the only motors he should be showing them are for ride on mowers and whipper snippers.

Thanks Rossco, I'll probably come and pick those piston heads and oil pump up. I'll let you know about the r/c motor as I don't have a lot of time with them.

I spoke to one of the technology teachers today and they have a full engine with a cut away section and a hand crank that I can borrow.

Not another bulk collection for a while but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

That's a good idea. I might drop in and see them after work tomorrow.
