TBE or CBE for MY08 WRX hatch
Thought I would try here for a deal before I bite the bullet and go new...
Looking for either a TBE or CBE (aftermarket) as I will just be installing from the cat back for now while I sort out funds for a tune. Let me know what you have |

Save more and do it all in one hit.
Butler stainless TBE on mine. (oval muff, pretty sure all butlers are?) +Catless up-pipe on mine, as Subaru put a cat in it for some dumb reason, which was clearly a stupid error as it only existed on MY01. + If you think saving for a TBE + tune is bad, try saving/waiting for an 06 STI 6 speed conversion.

My defence is I want to do one tune wherever possible, so supporting mods and turbo upgrade + TBE + tune all at once if possible and I'm a little way off achieving that at the moment. Probably another 4 or so months, and the lack of noise from my rex depresses me everytime I put my foot down (something I do miss from my 02) so I figure I can go a CBE now and play while I pay so to speak. |

Remember the initial custom tune is $1000 or so, then retunes later when you add turbos and shit is much lower. I did a retune when I did a 34 and injectors, and was fuck all. Do your TBE, get the initial tune on, then add all the extra shit later.
Then your just paying for the parts, labour and retune. Just the way I did it and worked good for me. You will get more satisfaction if you do the TBE and tune at the same time I can assure you of that.

Oh really? I knew tune was around $1000 but I didn't know that subsequent tunes were cheaper than that. That changes the game a bit. Thanks for the info, roughly how much is fuck all? |

Was a while ago, so probably changed a bit now. 2-3 hundred? At a rough guess. Call ASG and ask if you're going through them to verify. I had a turbo and injectors done at Platinum's, then trailered the car to ASG for dyno.

Thanks for the info dude, appreciate it.
EDIT: Still interested in TBE's if anybody has one to sell, no CBE now. Last edited by JRecardo; 20-12-2013 at 10:23 PM. |

Apparently just a cat back exhaust doesn't sound that great? So I was told, best to get the turbo back
using the Perth-WRX mobile app |

I just paid to 260buks for a retune by ASG which seems pretty reasonable to me. TBE and tune.

Yep, wasn't aware of the significantly lower costs of a retune, so tuning as I go doesn't bother me now. I guess the initial tune lays down all the hard work that doesn't need to be redone for future tune ups?
Thanks for all the info guys, this site has been a gold mine for it. |
