RichX 23-02-2011 07:03 PM

Must be around my area somewhere, but just not seeing you! :) If you were in the Silver 02 i might see you easier??

jasonmurray 23-02-2011 07:19 PM

Hahaha I know I know... you gotta look out for the grandpa spec gold fairlane now!

STi is coming tho... only a few weeks away :)

Gotta catch up for a beer soon too!

RichX 13-05-2011 05:54 PM

Bought some HSD HR's off Joe! Cheers mate. Should have them in a few weeks. Gonna get it sitting real nice.

Also looking at doing new rims at the same time to go with the coilovers.

If so will sell the 17" STI rims with Falken RT615 rubber on currently.

RichX 29-05-2011 03:57 PM

Minor update.

Got bored.

Did some stuff - Dedcided to de-badge ze rear SUBARU badges as they are a pain and clutter the boot. Was a bit of a pain, after those badges have been on for 10 years.

Used the hairdryer, but was still tough to get off, ended up having to use some bug/tar remover, bit of clay barring and a razor to get the tiny bits of resin off. Still no 100% but close.

Before:

After:

New rims will look like this with the work lugnuts, going on this week. I think they are pretty common but should look the goods in the size and offset i scored.

HSD's going in, they look so good.

Also picked up an 03 STI steering wheel to replace the older 01 looking one.

Cluster i put in a few months ago.

Will get better shots once the rims/coils are in.

Thanks for looking.

kid 29-05-2011 04:17 PM

Hey dude let me know how you go with those coils.....i've been reading online/ older threads and most people recommend tein ss? Any reason you went with the HSD? They are price well but i dont know anything about them...

Jordiee 29-05-2011 04:34 PM

looking good, imo you should de-wing it and slam it on it's arse with the new rims, will look better than with the wing

keen for pics

Not looked through enough threads on Perth-WRX

Joe has literally sold hundreds of these setups and worked well across the board.

Yeah i reckon so too, was just thinking the same. Filling boot holes, what's the go with that?

Know of Tein super streets, but not really seen a heap of people recommending them? I think there are a lot of people on here using HSD's with only praise good feedback.

Jordiee 29-05-2011 04:53 PM
Yeah i reckon so too, was just thinking the same. Filling boot holes, what's the go with that?
i was looking at filling mine, i got a quote from the spoiler shop for 400 dollars, holes welded and the entire boot repainted

but i ended up just filling mine in with rubber gromets (which most people do), which you can buy from repco or supercheap etc. for nothing

you might want to get white ones, considering your car is white, if you choose to do that

American Dave 29-05-2011 06:18 PM

Rich those rims and HSD's will transform your car. You will be grinning from ear to ear.

RichX 29-05-2011 06:28 PM

Cheers Dave.

Yeah i won't lie, I am definitely looking forward to it all going in on Wednesday and hoping for it to look pretty tough.

Will have to wait and see how the rims fit in terms of any rubbing issues etc. Not expecting any major probs though.

American Dave 29-05-2011 06:33 PM

you should be fine I reckon

ImPreSiV 29-05-2011 06:37 PM

looking forward to seeing the pics with rims and HSD's in! You going to run some neg camber?

Jimmy S 29-05-2011 07:49 PM

Gonna look great IMO Rich!... a degree or so of negative camber should get them tucked inside the guards!

RichX 29-05-2011 08:15 PM

Will request neg camber and do a trial de-wing next weekend. I never thought I would de wing. I think it only suits when slammed.

Jimmy S 29-05-2011 11:42 PM

Definitely trial the de-wing... It's a 5min job to check it out... so it's not like you're wasting hours of your time if you don't like it! :)

Give eucalyptus oil a crack at getting the remaining clue from the badges off, and also the wing!? Has worked a treat for me whenever I've used it!

RichX 30-05-2011 12:30 PM

Cool will do! Bug and Tar remover did sweet-fa to help really.

Also - Just had the 03 Steering wheel land on my desk, is there any way to tell if the airbag is still in there and intact? Not sure how this works.

mARC 30-05-2011 12:39 PM

Use wax and grease remover (Prepsol) to remove the residual tape from the badges.

If the steering wheel comes with the centre piece and it's not split you can assume its still in tact 'does it feel heavy'.

Jimmy S 30-05-2011 12:42 PM

Not sure on the airbag, but I'd presume if it's complete then it should be intact?

edit: just realised your's is a WRX with STi bits... my bad...

Gk_ 30-05-2011 12:56 PM

Who is putting in your coilovers mate?? Asg charged me 400 bucks last time. I might get some hsd's soon as I went back to stock. Just wondering if anyone can fit them cheaper or Is it's a easy diy

RichX 30-05-2011 01:06 PM

Rob Webber & Nigel B

Platinum Automotives - Home

Not sure how $$ it will be. I generally just buy all the stuff I want and then just send it there way to install for me.

Jimmy S 30-05-2011 01:07 PM

Easy enough to DIY... Takes a couple of hours if you take your time... But nothing too hard about it!...

Just need to get it aligned afterwards!?

Rexxar 30-05-2011 01:47 PM

very easy to DIY, make it easier if you have an impact wrench.
Those camber bolts are a bitch to remove... Wheels World for alignment

RichX 30-05-2011 05:42 PM

Looks like it's in one piece. Only cost $100 so was a good deal. Are there any legal issues with changing wheels?

MY00GC8 30-05-2011 06:00 PM

there will be some screws on the side of the inner piece of the wheel that hold it in, usually they are a torx bit"
as long as the grey/silvery bit is all intact you should be fine
but you will need to take the airbag out anyway to bolt the wheel to your car.
remember to take off the negative terminal of your battery before you connect up the airbag!

Jordiee 04-06-2011 04:38 PM

pics pics pics from slammage and wheels with the whole car in the shot

AJAYJAY 04-06-2011 04:53 PM

where's u get the steering wheel from? i wanna get one on my STi

jasonmurray 04-06-2011 05:04 PM

Nice wheel Richo... still living in the same spot?

RichX 04-06-2011 05:12 PM

Down in Morley now big guy :)

jasonmurray 04-06-2011 05:39 PM

Aaaaah Ive moved to Thornlie now... lucky I didnt pop over the other day!

RichX 08-06-2011 03:52 PM

HSD's are in. Dumped, yes. Had to remove the inner rubber liner from the rear arches as it's scrubbing a bit around corners.

Feels a LOT better than what was in, now need to learn how to tweak them a bit in terms of dampning.

GTB Liberty 08-06-2011 03:57 PM

Too low ;)

LOL - looks great. Do you like the change in road feel?

RichX 08-06-2011 04:00 PM

Yeah i do, the feeling of standard springs then going to coilovers is hard to explain, but it definitely feels much nicer.

American Dave 08-06-2011 04:07 PM

controlled is the word

Voot 08-06-2011 04:09 PM

Very nice stance! Looks the goods cant wait for my rims to arrive now!

RichX 08-06-2011 04:53 PM

Yes it does feel more controlled, no more bounce on the front either when going over bumps which is awesome as that sucked!

8.5 +43 does go well, anythinf wider would have been a struggle since I haven't done any guard work other than rip those black strips off on the rear which took all of 2 seconds.

If it notice any damage etc, i might have to do something about the rear, think it will be okay though.

Maybe i should do rear swaybar, make it stiff to stop rubbing? would that help too?

jasonmurray 08-06-2011 05:06 PM

Looks hot Richy Rich!

Soksta 08-06-2011 05:13 PM

Needs to gain a little bit of height at the back for the angry stance!
Looks great though, nice work :D

Jordiee 08-06-2011 05:23 PM

man that looks awesome
+100
