Correct.
Buying another car to 'save' this one will even worsen that financial situation. A bottom end for sub-$3k + install costs are far cheaper than purchasing (or even worse, leasing) a new car. For what you are doing, there is no need to 'build' a mega $10k+ motor when or if it pops. Ask Doug to budget the cheapest possible way to throw a EJ207 bottom end in and keep that money aside. Avoid beating up on the car to keep it going as long as you can.

Cam,
For the purpose of what ( i think) youre after, which is a decent street/fun/track hack. The car is suited for what you want. The need for a 207, 6 speed etc etc is there vut ultimatly, your car is pretty dam good. I could only recommend a set of 17's with some good quality rubber ( s drives, ku36's, hankook RS3's etc etc) this will give you more grip & help the visual appeal of the car. I wouldnt waste your money on salary sacrificing another car for work unless (like my situation) it doesnt cost you a penny. Enjoy what you have worked so hard to make. My 2c :-)

Nobody said it was massive. However, an old, tired, worn out, non forged, open deck motor has been increased 60% in its output. There was no history on this car before 175,000kms. God knows what it had before, how it was treated, if its servicing was kept properly, how many different owners it had.
I can tell you that it was definately modified and tuned before, and it was returned to stock and traded in to a dealership. Cheap generic shit was used on the return to stock and lots of standard parts were missing. If you want to have work done to your car and not want to be warned that you should keep in mind what could happen down the track - be my guest - but I for one am happy when people like STechnic and Evo-R dont dick me around and tell me exactly what may or may not come to pass. Nobody knows the future, as Kato said just because its running more power it might live another 100,000kms - but it also might not. Its no different when I was doing proper customized computers for people. Overclocked CPU's are prime example. Sure - if you want to whack another 800mhz onto it and up the vCore by a substantial amount, throw a much better cooling system onto it - it might last 5 years, it might last 2. But at least you are made aware so when it carks it you arent left unprepared. |

If it helps at all. I have a EJ205 with 200k on it, has been on 20psi Verso for quite a few years now with 260hp.
Idles smooth, runs a dream, no smoke, no oil leaks, starts first time every time. I service it well every 10k with the best of everything.

ps: My question is merely wanting a comparison to what i have done to my car. I'm only running 17psi in mine.
Same TMIC as you, 3 inch exhaust, fuel pump, standard injectors etc. Only major diff is I have Power FC and you have Vipec and i have VF34 and you have a VF28. Similar power output, but my clutch was shocking at the time it was tuned.
