As you all know we are at 210HP on the restricted GC WRX TMIC and not spending a full amount of time on tuning this current setup - just putting it extremely conservative so I can get around town for a couple of weeks while we wait for the Silicone Y Pipe to arrive.

I have asked Mao to also organise the Walbro Fuel Pump to be installed prior to the final tune (Should have done this already but I overlooked it, too. Oops!).

I like the VF28 already - the car feels more like a car I guess. TD04 seemed to have this quick little zip as soon as you put your foot down but runs out very quickly. Opposed to this VF28 which when driving at normal speeds and rpm, there really isnt much boost happening at all (dont need it at this stage anyway), but when you put the pedal to the metal it quickly creeps up on you. This turbo I can feel myself being pushed back right into the redline which is much better, and what I expected to feel when I purchased the car in the beginning.
Alright, Round 3! Walbro pump is in, STi Top Mount is in - Power Hike to 240HP. Mao and Warrick are 100% confident that the little EJ205 that could (haha) make 240HP will not last more than a few months. So I am making a decision from now as to how my 'Subaru Life' will play out in future.

I was going to enter the mid-year Rally Sprint. This will now not happen. I will look after the car for a while longer... long enough to organise a company car, or a salary sacrifice.

The GC8 Will be used on Weekends until the motor dies - in which case it will be put into storage until such a time as I have the spare cash to do a proper rebuild into a 207.

The decision for me now, is will I pickup a 2012 WRX on Salary Sac, or will I just get a run-around like a Focus/Lancer/3/i25/Impreza RS.

I would like a 2012 WRX dont get me wrong, but the idea of a new cheap daily that costs nothing to service, and a monster built GC8 down the road is delicious indeed.

I think you need to crunch the numbers as a whole.

But each to their own.

Why will your engine all of a sudden just pack up and die? Have they said why? How many kms on it?
Fixed your shit house fuel consumption yet?

Why is the motor suddenly going to grenade because you are making 240hp?

Tbh, that's stuff all.

So long as the tune (boost/timing etc) is not too agressive, there isn't anything that will just make the motor pop so quick.

I happilly ran mega boost and produced 280hp - 300hp on my old EJ205 (albeit MY05 so AVCS will help get some higher power figures). I also beat the crap out of it on a regular occasion. So I'm curious why you have been told this short life expectancy.

^^ Some good advice Cam.
With salary sacrificing you want to make sure that you know and understand how it works and how it might/will affect you financially.

No point buying a newer, nicer wrx for a daily driver, but if you were to get another car to preserve the current one, then get something that is safe, comfortable and reasonably good on fuel.

Running costs and insurance should be less and you should also attract less attention from other drivers while you are going about your own duties.

Understand where you are coming from Kato, but with 220,000km on the motor and engine not allowing more timing, we owe Cameron a duty of care to advise him accordingly.

Thats all - Didnt say it was going to just die tomorrow - but keep in mind that its more likely going to die in the future than not. I need to weigh up what possible options I have and what suits me.

TJ you have a good point why own 2 WRX's. Which is why im looking to those other cheap/econo cars also.

Will it go, yes. In a matter of months? That's what I found hard to swallow.

My GC8 is still a EJ205 and when it is together it gets the piss beaten out of it. It will eventually die, but I can't put a timeframe on when.

For what it is worth, I'd drive it till it dies, slap 207 in and repeat.
mARC likes this.
