Pics fixed, one too many Tony Peroni's last night got me clicking the wrong shit.

Not Devo at all Craig to be honest mate. Even the guys yesterday when I was pulling it apart, were like, "what are you smiling for? You're taking photos & sending them too people because you're proud of the damage you did aren't you?" I'm not proud, but I do think its funny as fuck. It took a long time to build this engine & it will take some time to fix it, but its the learning I love. Pulling an engine out in & having it stripped down to the bare short block, just before lunch. I could not have made that statement 12 months ago & even if I could, I would have no idea how to put it all back together again. Well not without two handfuls of bolts left over.

So the postmortem reveals that it will live again. Hooray...... It seems it was my fault, bouncing the car off the limiter, on the wet track. It could also be partially attributed to a poor valve, as none of the other 7 valves show any sign of damage. Either way who gives a truck, Its done, its cost me some time & money, but hey, I fucked another engine, I'll learn from it that things are not meant to rev that high.

So...

The bore is clean, the crank & rods are fine (still have to separate the case halves today, but everything feels ok & turns over fine) The bearings should be ok, I have another set of stroker pistons as I was going to build a spare engine, so I will put another set in. I need some welding & machining done on the head combustion chamber & fix the spark plug thread (Kap Industries maybe?). A complete set of valves, just because they are probably all stressed now. Re clearance the valves with the shims, A slap a couple of new head gaskets on. Job done.

So if I get the heads off today and the valves ordered, it should be started again in 14 - 21 days as I'm back off to work tomorrow for a week. I hope it is all done & going again before the 20th though as I'm doing the SES Collie 2 dayer down there....

Oh the joys of motorsport.................
Jeckle and illrhymes like this.

It wasn't a silly question at all. Probably not Gav, in reality I am sure the guys at Subaru back in 1994 or whenever when they designed the car would never have thought the car would have half the crap done some of us do to our cars. But hey its fun, I enjoy it, so I do it. I would probably be better off buy a Porsche or a new GTR if I wanted quick times & reliability, but I enjoy the building, breaking & fixing, just as much as I enjoy the driving.

What setting have you gone for on the DCCD with that much power? Assuming you stray away from setting towards the rear?
Sorry Jezza I missed this.

HERE is where I got my controller from.

I generally have it set to around 3/4 of the way up as I find that's where it suits the car best. If I leave it all the way to rear, it does tend to get too tail happy, especially in the wet.

It actually punched a hole and embedded itself in the piston. In reality, it was probably the saving grace, so the valve top was not banging around in the top of the motor ruining the bore.

yes very true, would make a great trophy though, embed the valve back into the piston, polish it up & mount on a block of wood
