Will cost 10x more in unseen unexpected costs when paying for parts/labour at a garage.

You are mechanic = you have an idea what you were doing.

This can only end with burnt pockets. Maybe with a half decent car to show for it at the end, but a big fucking hole in the pocket for no reason whatsoever!

Engine/gearbox swap isn't that hard. The ancillaries will probably be a bigger pain than the big stuff. I'd find out what is involved with the loom swap etc before attempting it at home.

Best know someone who is handy with tools and has all the right gear!

Although taking it into S-Technic would be easier, and you can always visit them daily with beer and baked goods and I'm sure they'd teach you a thing or two whilst doing the car!

The wiring loom splice would be the major issue. AM Auto in Qld are the place to trust for that. The mechanicals is basically straightforward.

As said, mechanicals with some books and tools / hoists shouldn't be much of an issue for most people.

For the wiring, buy a loom all done if you can. It is worth every penny.

ok so this thread is full of fail..... i shouldn't have asked for help and thought i could do it myself, looking back yes i said some stupid things i'm 19 what do you expect. I was just excited about the whole idea of a conversion for my car and didn't realise all the work that's involved but what i am aware of is the cost and what i'm willing to pay for it so none of you need to worry about that. finally for the people who offered advice, ideas, experiences they had and were generally helpful thankyou very much.

ps. i have found a very good halfcut and the conversion is happening in a couple of weeks at a respectable workshop(not at my house)

could a mod please close this thread, once the conversion is done i will start a new one about the build
