Buy fixed back, put it in and leave it.

Leave seatbelts in for everyday commute and whack in 6 point for race day.

Get 3ohm resistor for airbag sensor for the seats so the airbag light isn't on your dash.

Ok so a fixed back seat in a car that came with an airbag is a no no from insurance POV.
A harness with an adjustable back is a no no in regards to your spine in the case of a crash as the seat back joints are designed to break for rollovers.

No reclining seat is made for or HANS compliant.

A HANS without 5/6 point harness and proper seat will also not work.

So either swap seats and install harness bar and put in for track days or put in bolstered seat and use a CG lock on your seat belt.

Going halfway with a HANS / Harness may result in a worse outcome than head butting an airbag.

A HANS would have made zero difference to you in that crash.

A HANS, fixed back HANS compliant seat and harness might have but not by much.

Seat base and slider rails appear to be ok mARC but the upright is completely rooted, twisted badly and jams as you try to bring it forward to a normal position.

I am not even remotely interested in trying salvage any of it. It did it's job.

Okey dokey Subaru want up to $4K to replace the entire seat in components as they don't sell seats whole??

To replace the back rest part of the seat will be $1300 in components plus labour!!!

Think I will have to buy a seat from a wrecker now...

Correct, I priced up a bug seat and it comes as rail, frame, cushions, overlay, and sundry 'e.g belt buckle'.

An aftermarket seat would be the option here but as Scary has said pay particular attention to the insurance implications of what you purchase here or scour wreckers/gum tree.

Further to insurance point mentioned above I can not stress enough getting a compliant aftermarket seat and ensuring its compliance against your policy, as its an unnecessary headache/safety issue you don't want to encounter come a time you need to make a claim/be in a situation were the purchase works against you/the driver.

You may have to play the waiting game re: second hand seat or perhaps get something from an alternate model that works 'i.e close enough is good enough until an opportune moment presents itself'.

Have you spoken to Maximum Motorsport? 3 STi's have been converted to Rally cars and they might have some of the interior parts you need

Re: the seat, I wouldn't bin it, as you might make some ones day converting it to a gaming rig seat and make some money on it.

Plenty of handy people on here and Antilag that'll be able to get it to work.

Out of curiosity did the repairer tell you it was beyond repair/able take a pic where it's bent?
