Default Evosubs Track day warrior

Gday guys, as promised ill be posting some pics of my track warrior GC8.
Intention is to cage it, rebuild the engine, make it handle, make it stop and be shiny.

I bought the car three weeks ago for 2 grand, has been in minor front end stack, air bags have deployed, some stuff is bent and buckled. Its got an 04 sti engine(i think) a VF35 turbo?, some bracing, some better rotors, big carbon snorter, some big wheels and a big exhaust.yay.

Due to time restraints and limited garage space this car isnt going to be a competitive monster unless my driving skills get alot better.
Im doing as much of the work myself with the limited space and equipment.
I just wanna get on the track safely and do sweet skids.

Out ya come!!!

That's awesome. Plenty of gc builds with cages and good engines happening. Should be awesome once they all come together

Hate to say it, but that's not an STI engine. It's an open deck 205. An 04 STI is a semi closed deck block. it should have a VF35 though, but it will say that on the compressor housing if it is the correct turbo.

Good to see you wanting to get out there an race though

More stuff

So ive got the engine out and in bits, its not in too bad a shape besides some scored bearings.
My machinist wants me to stroke it to a 2.5 but it seems theres alot of screwing round to make that happen. I reckon ill just put some decent rods and pistons back in and freshen some parts up. I managed to break a cam wheel on removal as hercules himself must have tightened it.

So a phone call to Subaru cost me $500 bucks with new timing belt, timing covers(busted that as well), crank cog and trigger (as it was seized from the beginning of time so I heavy fisted it). and some other bits.

Ive actually got no idea if this engine is an 02, 04,05 sti/not. The pistons dont look forged, the deck is open, the coil pack is off centred but the numbers dont make sense, meh, ill forge it myself!!!!
The VF 35 Turbo apparently is a good thing so we'll see how that tunes up with the Power FC.

The engine pics are boring and i didnt take many.
Here are some of my roll cage. Its only trial fitting st the moment, have done some drawings for the chassis mounting brackets as the floor is too thin.
OMFG tho, i didnt realise id be cutting the dash apart to fit it. Meh.

Starting to look a bit more respectable now. Just need front Bar and lights

You sound like a man that knows what hes talking about, yep its open deck, the pistons looked pathetic, i was just going off the previous owner who paid for an 'STI Engine Low Kms engine' ahhaha. He got Ripped off!!! (Apparantly over 6grand worth of engine and fitting) (Insert whistle here)

Oh dear, it's a standard 99 WRX motor looking at it. Anything STI from 01 ish onwards also has AVCS heads, which your pics don't show. Hopefully the VF35 comes through.

If you need an engine built pm me

Oh shit!! Really, its definately a VF35 Turbo tho.
Am i better off just finding a 2.5litre for it or rebuild this one?

Default Are these earlier engines any good for a forge?

If this is the earlier model engine, is it worth ditching it or plonking a 2.5 straight in?
