So VF29 is off!! Upon inspection ,looks as if the roller bearings have finally given up. Think this was originally Rosscos off his V6 . Was a good turbo but time to move on RIP. Some pics showing VF29 vs TD05 18G 6/6.

Taking the Empire UEL headers off and going back to the Sti RA ones I have after 18 months the Empires have held up fine with no leaks. When first buying these I had to clean up the collector with a die grinder and add some more TIG welds to some of the internal welds.

Id recommended these for some one on a budget that is mechanically minded that doesn't mind cleaning them up initially you really cant complain for the price the stainless is above average quality and can be welded ok unlike some cheaper brands with wafer thin walled low quality stainless.

The only other issue and the reason Im changing them back is they are only slightly unequal in their total length resulting in a normal boxer idle but when driving with the motor under load become very raspy and 4cyl honda like in their sound . I prefer the dok dok so these are coming off I'm getting some stainless flanges cut up and are making my own unequal length with Vbands and a twist mount up pipe.

Hope this little bit of feedback on the headers helps some people to make a decision when purchasing .

When does one expect boost with that turbz? Compressor side looks a lot bigger, exhaust side same as a VF34.

Guesstimating ~3800-4000 with a decent tune with all the supporting mods.

Yeah from what I can gather around 3500 so with my close ratios should be fine still .

The flow is where it makes up for the lag . Vf 29 was around 410 cfm at 1 bar , Td05 18 is about 620 cfm @ 1 bar .

Its also about how much boost u get from the turbo. One with 1.5 bar at 4500rpm does not necessarily mean it spools slower than another with 1 bar at 4000rpm.

Just to clear up a common misunderstanding these days. Sorry Richx and amtrapid for a bit thread hijacking.

Argon ran out just as I finished the o2 bung on the Unicorn waste collector. Time to bolt this sucker on.
