Do this mate. It is such a clean car it would suck to part it out. Have you been given an estimate to get it going again?

Nah I haven't been given any estimates yet but I've been able to add a few things up looking up parts from CMA so I have a rough idea what it could cost in that sense. I'll wait to see what TMS say and I'll check what's on their list and use it as a reference.

I wouldn't bother rebuilding the 205, drop in a 207 short motor freshen up heads and some head studs I.e arp 625 etc etc bolt up and tune...more expensive is the path I took built 207 with scat rods,cp pistons custom compression ratio, big cams, converted heads to shimless and a few more bits I have forgotten

Even if you are just dropping in a 207 short, I don't see how you can do it for $6k unless you intend on doing the labour yourself or skimping everywhere on gaskets and TB kit, filters, fluids etc... You would have to factor at least fivehundy in for some sort of tune post rebuild also.

Not trying to be negative but meh...

Yeah totally understand. I know I set the bar low at 6k and I did that because I've spent a tonne of money on the car already and I don't have much to show for it right now and that got to me. I have a few mates who have been really helpful and are keen to do the work at home (they're all either mechanics or have rebuilt motors before) so it seems doable in that sense but still debatable at 6 grand. if there's a market out there where I could maximise selling parts it would be considered - they're all brand new and basically have a few hours running in them. I'm keeping all my options open at this stage and until I get that quote from TMS I don't exactly know what's properly going to be involved

I think you'd be underwhelmed with what you're offered when parting it out. My experience with selling parts second hand is if you want them to move in any kind of quick timeframe you have to take a big loss.

If you do want to cut your losses you could look into a second hand 205 to drop in and sell. Doing labour yourself and this could be done for a couple of grand. Engine condition is never a guarantee though..

Wait for your quote to come back, take a long look at your budget and see what you want to do. If you do manage to go the 207 route you will have quite a strong engine platform. Sooner or later the driveline may need attention too.

I am concerned that if I spend the money to do the work on a 207, even if it's just a drop in, that my driveline would be next to go. I'm sure that if I don't drive it like a spaz it'll be fine but I don't know what condition that stuff is in either.

Sit down and make a list of what you would realistically expect to get for the various parts if you decide you don't want to spend any more on it. But realise that the spare parts market these days is pretty dead unless you have some special bits and pieces. There a quite a few quality parts for sale on this forum that have been there for a while (eg my twin scroll + DCCD Spec C 6 speed). Good luck!

If you plan on holding onto it for a few years then the money invested to get it back on the road is kind of a no brainer. You have a few options and potentially the right motor for it advertised on here by another member....Nauli (I think its still for sale?).
